Advocacy is Power!

The Institute's 17th Annual Gala
October 17, 2022 at 6 p.m.

Our Gala theme this year, “Advocacy is Power,” is inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s words that, “Power, properly understood, is the ability to achieve purpose. It is the strength required to bring about social, political, or economic changes.”

At the Institute, we live out this truth from Dr. King every day. We know that the strength to bring about necessary change is in our advocacy.

We know that Advocacy is Power.

We will be honoring an outstanding line-up of advocates this year, all who have contributed their power to the cause of justice.

At our event, we will recognize:

• Darnella Frazierthe courageous young woman who videotaped George Floyd’s murder (Racial Justice Champion Award)

• Jelani Cobb, Dean of Columbia Journalism School; Staff Writer for The New Yorker (National Social Justice Award)

• Douglas S. Eakeley, Alan V. Lowenstein Professor of Corporate and Business Law, Distinguished Professor of Professional Practice and Founder/Co-Director, Rutgers Center for Corporate Law and Governance, Rutgers Law School; Institute Trustee and former Board Chair (Alan V. and Amy Lowenstein Social Justice Award)
