Associate Counsel for Civic Engagement

The New Jersey Institute for Social Justice seeks a dedicated, creative, social and racial justice-minded person to serve as an Associate Counsel in our Civic Engagement pillar. This is a unique position that combines rigorous research, policy analysis, and carrying out community-driven advocacy campaigns to help advance our mission and innovative agenda. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Director, Criminal Justice Reform Program

The New Jersey Institute for Social Justice is looking for a sophisticated, dynamic team player to serve as our Director of Criminal Justice Reform to manage and implement a program of strategic legal and policy advocacy to expand racial and social justice in New Jersey. In this program, the Institute works to end criminal justice policies that result in the criminalization of communities of color, racial injustice, and mass incarceration. The Program centered around three issues: (1) reimagining policing in New Jersey, (2) transforming New Jersey’s broken youth justice system through the 150 Years is Enough youth justice campaign, and (3) ensuring successful reentry for those returning to the community after a term of incarceration.

Director, Economic Justice Program

The New Jersey Institute for Social Justice (the “Institute”) is looking for a sophisticated, dynamic team player to serve as our Director of Economic Justice to manage and implement a program of strategic legal and policy advocacy to expand racial and social justice in New Jersey. In this program, the Institute works to ensure equality of economic opportunity for residents in urban communities through building and strengthening systems that provide access to wealth, including (1) meaningful employment that pays a living wage; (2) affordable, fair, and quality housing in safe and healthy neighborhoods; (3) fair lending and student loan practices; and (4) other reparative policies and practices to help close New Jersey’s stark racial wealth gap.
