WELCOME!

We are pleased to present the first edition of the New Jersey Reentry Digest. This electronic publication is intended to disseminate information about prisoner reentry issues in New Jersey, as well as national information about reentry of interest to those in the state. We will be distributing it every other week, and intend to include substantive information of relevance to policy makers, practitioners, community members, and others interested in understanding and improving the way that our state addresses how individuals make the transition from prison to home. We welcome your comments and feedback, particularly as we refine it over the first several issues to make it of the greatest possible use to you.

The New Jersey Reentry Digest is hosted by the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, and grows out of the work of the New Jersey Reentry Roundtable, which the Institute co-sponsored with the New Jersey Public Policy Research Institute in 2002 and 2003. The Roundtable brought together policymakers, researchers, community and faith-based organizations, business leaders, service providers and other stakeholders to take a comprehensive and clear-eyed look at prisoner reentry in the state. Consistent with the mission of the Roundtable, the goal of the New Jersey Reentry Digest is to improve public understanding of policies, programs, research, and other critical matters relevant to prisoner reentry with the objective of reducing recidivism, increasing public safety, and strengthening families and communities.
