Demonstration Programs

The Institute has launched several demonstration projects to model effective ways to address known challenges facing urban residents and identify further challenges that only become apparent within a working model. Knowledge emerging from the operation of these demonstration programs is documented and disseminated to inform the Institute’s ongoing policy and advocacy work.

The Institute’s longest running demonstration program, the Newark/Essex Construction Careers Program (N/ECCP)is a Pre-Apprenticeship Program that prepares young urban residents of Essex County to enter the construction trades and has been replicated in other municipalities. More recently launched demonstration projects include the License Reinstatement Program and the New Careers Project which serves Newark and Essex County residents returning home from incarceration.
