Angelo J. Genova
Genova, Burns, and Vernoia

Angelo J. Genova, is a founding partner of the firm Genova, Burns & Vernoia.  Working out of the firm’s Newark office, he is a leading member of the New Jersey Bar in the practice areas of Labor and Employment Law, Election Law and Complex Litigation and Appeals.  Among his many accomplishments as an attorney, Mr. Genova has served four New Jersey Governors as the State’s labor negotiator with the unions representing over 40,000 public workers.  Of his work representing employers in labor disputes, Mr. Genova has commented, "Sometimes you can be more effective in helping people focus on fairness and what's the right thing when you represent them, as opposed to fighting them." Indeed, he has negotiated more than 100 labor contracts, and not one of them has led to a strike.  Mr. Genova is also a noted advocate in the area of election law.  He has litigated several high profile and nationally noteworthy election law cases,  serves as general counsel for the New Jersey Democratic Committee, and has co-authored several articles on election law and voting rights.

Mr. Genova is actively involved in philanthropic and community activities.  His charity work includes serving as a Trustee of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Newark, the Newark Museum, the American Conference on Diversity, the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey, The Legal Services Foundation of Essex County, the New Jersey Network Foundation, Volunteers of America: Delaware Valley and the New Jersey Italian and Italian American Heritage Commission Foundation. He is a board member of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark, a board member and past President of The Center for Italian & Italian American Culture, Inc., and a member of the Montclair State University Foundation.

 

In 2007, Mr. Genova received the Fannie Bear Besser Award for Public Service from Rutgers Law School.  In 2008, he was recognized as the 2008 Humanitarian Award Honoree by The Columbian Foundation.
